Chimney and Leadwork on Newcastle's Older Homes
Newcastle has a huge stock of period terraces with tall original chimney stacks, and many sit high above the roofline catching the full force of coastal wind and rain. Old lime mortar erodes, bricks spall in the frost and flashing fatigues over decades. We use code 4 and code 5 lead dressed and lapped correctly so it moves with temperature instead of cracking. On taller stacks scaffold access matters, and we plan it safely from the start.
Phil has rebuilt and re-led hundreds of stacks across the city's terraces over 20 years. He knows how these older stacks were built and matches the work to the property so it looks right and stays watertight.

Common questions
Questions about Chimney Stacks & Leadwork in Newcastle
Answers to the questions we are asked most.
How much does chimney stack repair cost in Newcastle?
Repointing and re-leading a stack typically runs from around 600 to 1,500 depending on height and access. A full rebuild costs more, often 1,500 to 3,000. Scaffold needs can affect the price, and we factor that in upfront.
Do you charge a call-out fee for chimney inspections in Newcastle?
No call-out fee. Phil comes out, checks the stack and gives you a free assessment.
How do I know if my chimney leadwork has failed?
Damp patches on upstairs ceilings near the chimney breast are the usual sign, along with staining on the stack itself. Split or lifted flashing and crumbling mortar joints are giveaways too. We can tell you exactly what is going on once we are up there.
How long does chimney stack work take?
Repointing and re-leading usually takes one to two days once scaffold is up. A full rebuild can take two to four days depending on the stack.
Do you use proper code-rated lead?
Yes, always. We use code 4 and code 5 milled lead dressed to a high standard, never thin substitutes. Phil does the leadwork himself with 20 years of experience behind it.
Which areas near Newcastle do you cover for chimney and leadwork?
We cover Newcastle and the wider North East, including Heaton, Jesmond, Gosforth, Byker and Gateshead. Get in touch if you are nearby.
